Margaret CarnealCKD-CBD, Designer Margaret Carneal Design

Margaret holds both bachelors and masters degrees in Interior Design from Virginia Tech. She has over twenty years of experience in academic and industry roles specializing in residential design & construction. Coursework taught at the university level includes housing and interior design classes. The courses comprise of studio, lecture, laboratory, and online formats. Sizable building, remodeling, and contracting experience demonstrate strengths in residential design, construction, and project management. Her design portfolio includes high-end residential designs which illustrate successful kitchen, bath, and whole house solutions. She is a CKD, CBD, and a NCIDQ certificate holder.

Currently, Margaret is completing her Ph.D. in Environmental Design & Planning within the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech and is a Bio-Build Fellow. Her research interests include the promotion of sustainable design and construction, lighting design, residential plumbing systems, bio-inspired design, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She also teaches courses in Residential Environments & Design at Virginia Tech, and interior design courses at Radford University.
