Association Update, Industry Insights and Powerhouse Panel 

In these back-to-back events, NKBA | KBIS Global President & CEO Bill Darcy first offers members and KBIS attendees his State of the Association address. This will give insight into the past year’s accomplishments and growth as well as the future direction of NKBA.  

This address is followed by the State of the Industry, which features a powerhouse panel of experts from the most influential names in the housing, economic and industry research sectors. These include:

  • Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies
  • John Burns Research and Consulting
  • Zillow Group
  • Zonda

Darcy moderates the panel, which will focus on real estate, housing and remodeling markets.

Todd Tomalak
Principal, Advisory of Building Products, Zonda

Todd leads Zonda’s Building Products Building Products Research and Advisory team, and spends most of his time investigating the toughest industry questions using Zonda’s unique housing data. Todd has a reputation as one of the most thoughtful and diligent analysts in the Building Products industry, Todd is the architect behind a number of publicly cited industry measures.

Before joining Zonda, Todd led JBREC Building Products Repair/Remodel forecasts, and at Kohler Co in economic/industry analysis for North America, various parties on segment decisions.

Todd is an 11-time winner of the most accurate category forecaster from the Chicago Federal Reserve. Todd’s analysis is regularly cited by various media, including the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, New York Times, and others. Todd holds a Bachelors in Mathematics from St Norbert College, and a MBA from George Mason University.

Orphe Divounguy
Senior Economist, Zillow Group

Orphe Divounguy is a senior economist with Zillow’s Economic Research team where he analyzes economic data to try and identify emerging trends in the housing market. In the past, Orphe’s work focused on quantitative methods for evaluating the impact of economic policy. Orphe earned a doctorate in economics from England’s University of Southampton.

Orphe is also the founder of the Quantitative Research Group and the co-host of the Everyday Economics podcast. Orphe also serves on the board of Housing Connector, a nonprofit dedicated to lowering barriers to housing.

Abbe Will
Senior Research Associate, Associate Project Director, Remodeling Futures

Abbe Will is a Senior Research Associate and Associate Project Director of the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University (JCHS). Abbe has over 15 years of experience conducting economic and demographic research and statistical analysis of the US home improvement and repair industry. She manages and contributes research to the Center’s Improving America’s Housing report series and administers the quarterly Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA), a short-term projection of national home improvement and repair spending. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Home Improvement Research Institute. Abbe’s home improvement research has been featured by Bloomberg, The Boston Globe, CNBC, Marketplace, MarketWatch, The New York Times, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, and Yahoo Finance. Prior to joining JCHS in 2006, Abbe served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA with Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod and Massachusetts Campus Compact. Abbe holds an M.A. in applied economic policy analysis from Northeastern University, and a B.A. in economics from Kalamazoo College.


Chris Beard
Director, Building Products Research, John Burns Research and Consulting

Chris leads John Burns’ monthly Dealer Survey and works closely with LBM dealers from around the country in understanding demand and pricing for building products with distribution as well as a quarterly survey of the window and door industry. He also leads a quarterly survey of structural component manufacturers and monitors public building products companies’ earnings. He is well-versed in the dynamic environment surrounding building products.

Prior to joining John Burns, Chris worked in Corporate Strategy and Development for Pella Corporation, leading corporate strategy and competitive intelligence, including market size and market share modeling and insights for industry associations and customers. Chris has worked in building products for most of his career with several manufacturers. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and History from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany.
