Company recognized for exceptional stone work in architectural projects
Walker Zanger—the world’s most comprehensive stone and tile company—received three 2015 Pinnacle Awards from the Marble Institute of America (MIA), including the 2015 Grande Pinnacle Award for the stone work in the Park Hyatt New York hotel. The Pinnacle Awards are granted to projects illustrating creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship that exemplify professional mastery in the use of natural stone in commercial and residential applications. The Grande Pinnacle Award is presented to the best overall project in the Pinnacle Awards competition.
“We are honored to have received the prestigious 2015 Grande Pinnacle Award for our work in the Park Hyatt New York hotel,” said Jonathan Zanger, President of Walker Zanger. “Our offices in China and Italy supervised all of the quarrying, cutting and layouts for the hotel, and more than 20 separate trips were made by the developer, architect, and Walker Zanger to the quarries and workshops to fine tune the extensive selection process.”
Walker Zanger supplied more than 20,000 square feet of Bianco Piove marble from China for the Park Hyatt New York lobby walls—culled from over 80,000 square feet of slabs cut specifically for the unique layout of the lobby—and over 250,000 square feet for the guestrooms. More than 15,000 square feet of Grigio Fantastico marble slabs were shipped from Italy for the lobby floors and staircase, and the ballroom was clad in 4,500 square feet of pristine white onyx (cut from over 15,000 square feet of onyx slabs). The onyx was installed in aluminum frames, with each panel individually back-lit.
Park Hyatt New York, designed by Yabu Pushelberg, features 210 luxurious guestrooms, including 92 premier suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows and inspired by New York’s illustrious Upper East Side homes. The hotel is nestled within the first 25 floors of the iconic, 90-story skyscraper, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Christian de Portzamparc.
In addition to the Grande Pinnacle Award for the Park Hyatt New York, Walker Zanger also received a Pinnacle Award for the renovation of Fashion Tower in New York, and “Bath of the Year” for its work in the 2014 Pasadena Showcase House.
