An important element of the Kitchen and Bath industry is the relationship it maintains with the media. This includes both traditional print, broadcast and digital media outlets. This relationship is instrumental to convey messages and promote the industry through trend reports, new product introductions, installations and business news.
To honor the demonstrated commitments of so many members of this community, the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) are proud to announce the third annual KBIS Outstanding Media Award has been presented to DJ Carey, Editorial Director of Cottages & Gardens Publications, a collection of luxury design magazines in Connecticut, New York, the Hamptons and San Francisco. Each celebrates the diverse design, architecture and lifestyle of its locale.
As Editorial Director of Cottages & Gardens Publications, Mrs. Carey is directly responsible for all editorial content in the Connecticut title. In addition, she manages the San Francisco editorial staff.
“I am so honored to receive the 2015 KBIS Outstanding Media Award,” said DJ Carey, Editorial Director of Cottages & Gardens. “Kitchen and bath design has been an important component in developing the content for the sophisticated readers of CTC&G (Connecticut Cottages & Gardens) and our sister titles at Cottages & Gardens. Our readers are continually involved in creating and renovating these spaces and look to us to inspire. No other spaces in a home reflect the homeowners as accurately or as honestly as the kitchen and bath.”
Among the many innovations that Mrs. Carey has brought to the titles has been a strong commitment to the kitchen and bath industries. She has produced a kitchen issue every January and a bath issue every June for the last 10 years. In addition, she created separate kitchen and bath categories in the publications’ annual Innovation in Design Awards now entering its 9th year. The competition showcases the best of local design as judged by an independent panel of well-known tastemakers.
Prior to joining Cottages & Gardens, Mrs. Carey’s experience includes time with House & Garden, Bride’s, Ladies’ Home Journal, Redbook, 1001 Home Ideas, Country Home, and This Old House. For several years she was the Connecticut field editor for Meredith Publications. In addition, she has developed and produced features in custom-publishing magazines for Sears, Minwax, the American Dairy Association, Target, Glidden, Lillian August and Mediterranean Living.
In October 2014, members of the kitchen and bath industry submitted their candidates for nomination. A selected jury of industry professionals including Chuck Wheelock of Wheelock Maidique, Jennifer Gilmer of Gilmer Kitchens and Ken Rohl of Rohl Home, deliberated to choose five finalists to be considered for the award. Mrs. Carey was among five finalists chosen by the jury, including:
Kit Selzer, Senior Home Editor, Better Homes & Gardens
Eliot Sefrin, Editorial Director, Kitchen & Bath Design News
Veronika Miller, Editor, Modenus
Bob Miodonski, Editor, Supply House Times/Reeves Journal/Plumbing & Mechanical
Congratulations to all who were nominated for their outstanding work and demonstrated commitment to the kitchen and bath industry.
