Contemporary style has now surpassed transitional as the number one style for bathrooms, according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) 2014 Kitchen and Bath Style Report. Specified by over 68% of survey respondents, this look celebrates the color white, clean lines, and polished chrome fixtures. Flooring materials are either porcelains or natural stone, and vanity tops are most often of granite or quartz. “Consumers are cleaning up their baths in 2014” reports the survey. “We’re seeing a general move toward simplicity in style, minimal color, but maximizing features and storage.”
The idea is to create spaces that offer “simple luxury”—minimalist décor coupled with eco-friendly, super-functional, design features that make bathrooms easier to maintain and use, but are also luxurious. Freestanding, deep soaking tubs with little ornamentation, complimented by elegant polished chrome grab bars, are one example of the mix. Natural stone inspired quartz is finding its way into large, walk in showers, offering incredible durability and ease of cleaning. Water management is hidden in air particles making shower sprays feel powerful and full. Comfort height toilets and vanities, in elegantly crisp whites are making Universal Design a standard in even the most luxurious bath spaces. Many of these trends will be highlighted by surface, faucet and fixture manufacturers at KBIS 2015.
Caesarstone, an early pioneer of natural quartz surfaces, and a KBIS 2015 exhibitor, is used in numerous applications requiring a durable, versatile, and beautiful material, including countertops, flooring, wall paneling, furniture, and bathroom vanities. The Company will launch Calacatta Nuvo this October – a natural stone inspired quartz that will expand the Caesarstone marble inspired series as part of its Classico collection.
TOTO, the world’s largest manufacturer of bathroom fixtures and fittings, also exhibiting at KBIS 2015, will launch the Connelly Suite. The collection combines luxurious curves with bold, geometric shapes and is offered in polished chrome, brushed and polished nickel finishes.
The TOTO Aero Shower System, designed with its new People-First Innovation, AeroJet+ Technology insures that each water droplet is pumped with air, giving droplets more volume. Users enjoy the experience of luxurious shower, while also conserving water. The look is clean and contemporary.
“Simple luxury” certainly doesn’t mean lacking in features or performance. Quite the contrary. The trend towards products with streamlined looks, that are also chock-a-block with functional components and capabilities, is the new mandate. Be sure catch the latest in this “simple luxury” bath trend at KBIS 2015, January 20-22, in Las Vegas.
