IceStone LLC has released a health product declaration (HPD) for its entire line of recycled glass and cement durable surfaces. The HPD is a reporting tool that standardizes the disclosure of product ingredients, enabling specifiers and consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

Although Health Product Declarations are relatively new (a pilot HPD program was initiated in 2012), IceStone’s commitment to transparency and healthy ingredients has been a driving force behind product development since the company’s founding in 2003. The HPD is a complement to IceStone’s Cradle to Cradle™ certification, which assesses a company’s social responsibility, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and material reutilization, in addition to product material health.

Consumers and advocates are pushing manufacturers to disclose product contents and minimize the prevalence of hazardous materials, a trend consistent with IceStone’s mission. “The increasing demand for transparency and preference for ecologically sound products is a positive shift in the design industry,” says IceStone’s Vice President and senior R&D lead, Jana Milcikova. “Producing a health product declaration is a natural fit for IceStone, and allows us to easily express our commitment to responsible design.”
