GE Appliances Partners with HomeAid to Help Homeless Youth in Orlando
Company kicks off national tradeshow presence with $35,000 donation to the nonprofit

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Feb. 9, 2021—GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, kicked off Day One of the 2021 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders’ Show and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) by announcing a $35,000 donation to HomeAid, a leading national nonprofit provider of housing and resources for people experiencing homelessness. The donation will go toward supporting homeless youth in the Orlando, Fla., area, where both the NAHB and KBIS tradeshows were originally scheduled to be held before going virtual due to COVID-19.

“At GE Appliances, we come together to make good things, for life,” said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances. “That’s a purpose extending beyond our products to our people, customers, and our commitment to supporting the communities where we live, work, and do business. We know Orlando is a city hard hit due to business closures and event cancellations as a result of COVID-19, and while we can’t be there in person this year, we want the community to know it has our support. Lifting up nonprofits and community partners, like HomeAid, is one more way we can reach those in need and deliver on our promise to improve people’s lives.”

Since 2006, GEA and HomeAid have partnered with the builders’ community to provide safe, comfortable housing and appliances for people experiencing homelessness across the U.S., including domestic violence victims, homeless families, seniors, veterans, and youth. To date, GEA has contributed more than $1.4 million to HomeAid through appliance donations and funding to help support these efforts. This latest investment will help HomeAid Orlando build a multi-unit tiny home community with the Forward Paths Foundation, an organization helping to improve the lives of Lake County’s homeless unaccompanied youth and youth aging out of foster care.

“At the heart of HomeAid’s mission is ‘home’ and all that it brings to those whose lives are impacted by our work,” said HomeAid CEO Scott Larson. “At the heart of the home are appliances—whether that is an oven, a refrigerator, a microwave, or even washers and dryers. HomeAid could not be more grateful for the 2,900 appliances provided by GEA for over 120 developments nationwide and all that it means to create a home where new stories begin for the thousands who will cross those thresholds over the years to come.”

Today’s announcement includes a $25,000 contribution to HomeAid supported by the GEA national sales and corporate citizenship teams. In addition, during the International Builders’ Show and KBIS, attendees can visit the GEA virtual booth to view the video below highlighting the company’s long-standing, purpose-driven commitment to building stronger communities. For every view, GEA will donate an additional dollar to HomeAid up to $10,000.

Each year, GEA’s corporate citizenship efforts and investments with community partners help connect people with the resources they need to be successful, shape the future workforce, and strengthen equity, health, and education in local communities.

The NAHB International Builders’ Show and KBIS, held Feb. 9-12, are the industry’s largest annual tradeshows dedicated to the latest products, trends, and services for building and housing professionals as well as all aspects of kitchen and bath design.
